Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties; Mr Akan Okon, has dispelled the rumour making rounds that equipment at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, were brought from Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, for the purpose of its commissioning.
He stated explicitly that all the kits and equipment at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel were procured by the Akwa Ibom State government.
Mr Okon made the disclosure on Friday afternoon, when he took the Permanent Secretary; Dr (Mrs.) Valerie Obot, some Directors and Engineers from his Ministry on an inspection tour of the hotel.
Some of the facilities visited by the team were: the banquet hall, meeting rooms, spa, indoor and outdoor restaurants, swimming pool, tennis courts, club lounge, a roof terrace, fitness centre, amongst others.
The Commissioner who regretted that some people in the State have resorted to dissemination of false rumour to undermine excellent performance of government implored those spreading the fabricated story to always do a little investigation before going to press.
“It is a pity that what thrives in our State is rumour. People rarely verify information. Thank God you people; men of the fourth estate of the realm have seen the true position here and you can differentiate between the rumour and what you have seen here. I am sure you will also help us to inform our people properly that this place is at the stage of its usage, after we must have finished putting finishing touches in few departments”, he said.
Mr Akan Okon, who addressed the press after an extensive session with Consultants of the hotel, assured that the facility will soon be opened for commercial activities.
“His Excellency the governor has put everything in place in ensuring that this place is put to use as soon as possible. Above all, based on the discussions we have just finished with the consultants here, I am very certain that the governor, who is so desirous of seeing that this place is opened without delay, will do the needful and full activities, shall soon commence here”, he stated.
He pointed out that the decline in the revenue allocated to Akwa Ibom State was the major reason for the slow pace of work at the hotel as government was also embarking on so many other mega projects in the 31 Local Government Areas of the State.
Mr Akan Okon used the occasion to urge all and sundry to give maximum support to Governor Udom Emmanuel, whom he said has demonstrated exceptional commitment towards the development of all the nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom.
